CES Experts Participate in Aghavnadzor training PDF Print

The Association of Sustainable Human Development (ASHD) in partnership with the Centre for European Studies, “European Integration” NGO, Armedia Information Analytical agency and Armenia Tree projects organized a training course “Participation and Networking: Challenges for Youth in Creating a Democratic and Sustainable Society through Promotion of Fair Elections.” The European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe sponsored the training.

During the EU Eastern Partnership Summit, held on 29-30 September 2011 in Warsaw, President S. Sargsyan in his speech presented a number of innovative ideas that can fuel the process of Armenia’s European integration with new content and energy. From the theses discussed special interest among the Armenian general public aroused the following viewpoint:

“Maintaining on its territory a lasting peace and prosperity, the European Union appears to the world as a unique example of political and economic integration. I am confident that this experience can also be employed in the South Caucasus.” President S. Sargsyan, Warsaw , 30.09.2011.

Taking into account the importance and exceptionality of this idea expressed by the President of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the necessity of making it more acceptable and understandable to the general public, the Yerevan State University Centre for European Studies on the 13th of October held an open debate on “The EU model in the South Caucasus.” The speakers of the debate were: Mr. Artur Ghazinyan, Director, Centre for European Studies, Dr. Armen Baibourtian, Senior Advisor to the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Levon Barkhudaryan, Senior expert, Center for European Studies, Mr. Richard   Giragosyan, Director, Center for Regional Studies; Senior expert, Center for European Studies (speaker).

On September 17, Dr. Vazrik Bazil, German PR specialist of Armenian origin, Doctor of Philosophy, delivered a lecture at the YSU Centre for European Studies. During the interactive lecture Dr. Bazil firstly raised the question concerning what the participants understand by saying ghostwriter, and also matters of professional and personal aids were discussed. read more

Temp_01One of the series of seminars on “Perspectives of Internationalisation: Student-centered Learning” organized from 13-15 September with the support of National Tempus Office in Armenia, was held on 15th September in the YSU Centre for European Studies. The main speakers of the event were Ms. Boel Billgren from Lund University (Sweden) and Higher Education Reform Expert (HERE-Armenia) Ms. Nvard Manasyan.

The aim of the seminar was to raise the awareness of academic and administrative staff, as well as students of higher education institutions on the perspectives of internationalisation, mobility, and the preparation and implementation of student-centered learning.   
Working languages were English and Armenian.

First class of the new Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratization PDF Print

IN_01On 14 September twenty-three students will officially join the first class of the new “Regional Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratization in Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine,” supported by the European Union. Thirteen of the students come from Armenia, while another eleven have just arrived from Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia.


Established by a grant provided by the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights, the programme is expected to offer students the opportunity to acquire profound knowledge and practical skills in human rights and democratization. read more

Press Release: Memorandum of Understanding to Promote Co-Operation PDF Print

In September 5, 2011 memorandum of understanding was signed to promote co-operation between YSU Centre for European Studies and University of Essex. The Department of History and Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex and the Centre for European Studies at Yerevan State University entered into a co-operative arrangement whereby Essex will provide support and advice to CES regarding the quality assurance of the two MA programmes run by the Centre. This arrangement will initially target students at the CES enrolled in either the current MA in European Studies or the new MA in Human Rights and Democratization, which will begin in autumn 2011. read more

PDT_01On September 1-3, 2011 a three-day professional development training on Education Quality and Teaching Staff was organized within the framework of partnership between the Centre for European Studies and the University of Essex. The training was developed and held by Professor Rainer Schulze, Director of the Human Rights Centre, University of Essex, and it was particularly designed for the lecturers teaching on the MA in Human Rights and Democratization, and the MA in European Studies. During the three days the participants acquired both theoretical and practical knowledge on a number of important aspects of quality assurance which impact on the quality of teaching and learning. read morePDT_02

The Centre for European Studies founded by the European Union took part in the “Europe Day” fair organized by the European Union in Lovers’ Park on 21st of June, 2011. The fair was both cultural and educational event dedicated to the Europe Day, which is being celebrated all over the world. Numerous organizations, foundations and centers participated in the fair and presented their organizations, as well as their achievements, on-going and future projects. Visitors together with participants were given an opportunity to establish relationships and possible cooperation with various organizations by information sharing and exchanging contacts.The Centre for European Studies, among worldwide famous educational programmes such as Erasmus Mundus and DAAD, presented its two MA programmes – one in European Studies and the second in Human Rights and Democratization. The visitors were rather enthusiastic about the opportunity of pursuing a European level master’s degree adapted to the Armenian context. Number of questions were raised concerning MA programmes and about new educational opportunities for career development purposes. The fair was accompanied by cultural exposures of different European nations as well as intellectual contests for the visitors to participate.
